In recent news, published on the Business Section of Fyens Stiftstidende--the daily newspaper of Odense--the development of a fertilizer's test for Chinese cotton created great buzz around a massive fertilizer plant in the workings. This Chinese customer could give this Funen's company another blooming success story like Hans Christian Andersen's.
The small Funian manufacturer of Flex Fertilizer SystemTM specializes in creating an efficient fertilizer's formula for the best potatoes, corn, Christmas trees or even strawberries, earning a good number of customers around Denmark and Europe. And now a Chinese customer would like to add cotton to the list of crops with the potential to create a huge growth scenario for this small five-man company at Hvidkærvej in Odense.
Flex Fertilizer System TM was founded by Flemming Padkær, who has worked for five decades to develop and improve fertilizer formula and mixtures for agriculture. Both for the benefit of farmers and the environment. Mr. Padkær has developed an innovative way of producing fertilizer, through plants that can be placed in any farm or location. In this case the Chinese cotton producers require an especial fertilizer mix, which will be develop in a local plant in China. With two kinds of plants, for small scale and a larger plant of five tons, that has become the best seller.
This achievement to bring these distant collaborators together to improve the Chinese crops yields has been a collaborative effort between Marketfacilitator our partners in mainland China, China Sourcing.
Farm 144 is a cotton farm, one of 200 similar farms situated in Xinjiang province, one of the greater cotton producer in the world with perfect cultivation and management technology systems. Farm 144 has a production area of approximately 12,000 hectares. For a total of 3.5 million hectares considering the capacity of the 200 farms.
We cannot compare with the Danish agricultural production, or population density with China. Nevertheless, this is an exciting project for this small company. The initial project is to build a building, where the plant is going to stand. It is only a demonstration facility, but it can have a huge impact on Flex Fertilizer System TM , and "it can affect our small business a lot if it is successful," says Peder Zoega Beiskjær.
Both he and the director have been at the new collaborator to secure the agreement, which has been underway for two years. The Farm 144 plant is almost ready mounted on the halve floor on Hvidkærvej, but soon it will be re-assembled in a container and shipped to China. A 40-day transport trip, after which Product Manager Allan Holm will take the trip from Odense to China to ensure that the plant is set up properly.
"The cotton season begins in April, so I'll go there at the end of February or March to help get it started," says Allan Holm.
Chinese cotton producers in the area today buy fertilizer from a regular supplier. It is a very inflexible solution, and to match exactly the right mix and the right mix, they have been looking for a system where they can locally and almost daily adapt the fertilizer to crops, seasons and soil conditions.
"We do not know about cotton, they are experts, but we know a lot about fertilizers. They have discovered that they can have a lot of effect from using our plant and working with us to mix the right fertilizer that gives the best effect. That way, they can save money, optimize production and at the same time make the environment a service, says the director.
